What’s up Vienna! What’s up Montréal! is an multimedia event meant to explore expanded notions of working with sonic materials and was co-curated by Steve Bates, the founder and ex-director of the send + receive festival, and Austrian video and sound artists Michaela Grill and Christof Kurzmann. This event was also made possible with support from the Austrian Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture. Tim Hecker, is Canadian-based musician and sound artist who has produced an extensive range of audio works since 2000. His pieces have been described as "structured ambient" and "cathedral electronic music". More to the point, he has focused on exploring the intersection of noise, dissonance and melody, fostering an approach to songcraft which is both physical and emotive. His work has also included commissions for contemporary dance, sound-art installations, and various writings as well as being presented in live settings around the world. |
Didi Bruckmayr is a Doctor of economy who has written a dissertation on the national socialist welfare-system in Austria 1938-1945 and also performs, since 1985, as a singer, actor and performance-artist. Bruckmayr has done shows around the world either as a solo performer or with the notorious multimedia performance group F*KHEAD. In his solo vocal performance work Bruckmayr is making trips into the subconscious. Hyperventilation, throat and overtone singing and various strange voices are the proper equipment for these expeditions. |
