Red Road Music

Manitoba Music NCI-FM CBC Radio 3 CBC Radio 2

According to Native American tradition, walking the red road is a metaphor for living within the Creator's guidance - a life of truth, friendship, respect, spirituality, and humanitarianism. The lives of Aboriginal musicians are often connected to the red road, a life path, which ultimately leads to self-discovery and enlightenment.

Lucie Idlout may come from Nunavut but she has managed to burst out of the typical Aboriginal music stereotypes. This rocker calls Toronto home and recently contributed to the Great Canadian Song Quest for CBC Radio 2.

Hometown sensation Don Amero has been tearing up the award shows with his recent wins at the Canadian Folk Music Awards and the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards. His album Deepening has produced two number one hits on the Top 30 Aboriginal music charts.

Juno-award winning Burnt Project 1 has been around the Winnipeg music scene since 2001 and is currently working on a new album.

This special concert will launch an exciting new initiative, Ab-Originals. This music portal spearheaded by CBC Manitoba aims to increase the presence of Aboriginal musicians online through CBC Radio 3. Listeners will be introduced to music from Aboriginal artists through podcasts and playlists they can build themselves by becoming members. It’s easy and free to join!
