The Open Sky Orchestra was formed 14 years ago by Trevor Olfert (Organ Player for the Winnipeg Jets). The Open Sky Orchestra contains 35-40 Winnipeg musicians ranging in age from 10 to adult. The Orchestra was put together to provide young (and old) musicians with the opportunity to continue making music after High School when opportunities become more rare. In addition to traditional orchestra instruments there are also electric guitars, bass, keyboards and percussion.
The Orchestra is under the direction of Trevor Olfert . All music is written and/or arranged and transcribed by Trevor. Typically the music is focused around the piano which Trevor plays, but also highlights different members of the orchestra as well. Stylistically the Open Sky Orchestra could be summarized as pop/rock/orchestral/instrumental.
The orchestra typically does one concert series a year in the spring. At times the orchestra has put on concerts to support different charities or non-profit organizations. Winnipeg Harvest, Meadowood Manor, Habitat for Humanity. This year is the 7th year we have planned to focus on Cancer Research (Multiple Myeloma) and Care (The Children’s Fund of HSC).
