Rayannah releases her much-anticipated debut full-length album, “Nos repaires (Our Haunts),” due out on Friday March 8, followed by an album release show at the West End Cultural Centre on Saturday March 16.
The record showcases Rayannah’s unique and signature electro-soul sound, and features songs created over a five-year span. Underscored by intricate beat-making and dense soundscapes, most of the songs on this record are sung in French, but emotion transcends language to pull listeners into a world both dark and sweet.
Audiences can look forward to a live show featuring members of Ponteix, the Dirty Catfish Brass Band, and multi-instrumentalist Marjorie Fiset. The evening will also feature live projections by Saskatoon-based visual artist Stephanie Kuse, and set design by Miguel Fortier. Both Stephanie and Miguel collaborated with Rayannah in November 2018 for her Jazz Winnipeg NuSounds show, wowing audiences with meticulous and artful visual design and aesthetic.
EN : Rayannah bends noise into music by running voice, breath, synth and percussion through loop pedals. Underscored by intricate beat-making, her evocative lyrics in French and English rise above dense soundscapes, pulling listeners into a world both dark and sweet.
Innovative on stage and in the studio, Rayannah is now unveiling music from her first full length album to be released in early 2019. Beginning with singles “En attendant demain” and “Best of You”, this new collection of songs pursues and pushes the sounds and textures explored in Rayannah’s debut EP Boxcar Lullabies.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Rayannah has taken her electro-soul across Canada, to the West Coast of the US, and to Europe. Whether opening for Esperanza Spalding or Coeur de Pirate, fronting her band or performing alone on stage, Rayannah shares something raw, intimate, and transcendent all at once.
