Al Simmons Hatstravaganza- An AL Simmons Matinee
Sunday, September 15, 2024
2:00 PM / West End Cultural Centre
How old were you when you first heard Al Simmons? When you first saw him on stage somewhere, opening his portal to some sideways world of oval bicycle wheels, elaborate slide whistles, and the wildest hats known to anyone ever? There is no one more clever, more joyful, or more masterful than this vaudeville virtuoso. We are so lucky he’s one of us!
Fellow Manitoban Al Simmons will perform “Al Simmons Hatstravaganza” at Winnipeg’s West End Cultural Centre Sunday September 15th, 2:00. Opting for a matinee show to accommodate fans of all ages, this afternoon of wonder begins with a Sounds Crazy Instrument Petting Zoo, featuring many of Al’s creations. Imagine instruments made of everyday things, imagine tubes and valves and strings. Oh, and definitely - definitely - there will be hats of all stripes and shapes and types.
Have a wacky hat of your own? Please wear it! Over-the-top hats quite part of your regular wardrobe? Don’t worry, you can make one at the WECC hat creation station. Al will lead a Wacky Hat parade in the theatre after the show.
Al has brought us many, many songs and stories over the years, and now he has even more to offer! His latest album The Whistling Egg Man and Other Tall Tales, which came out in 2023, is Al’s first release in 25 years. Expect songs of this new record, highlights of earlier work, hats, and as many laughs as you can handle.
Warning: This show can be enjoyed by all ages. Please be prepared to have fun.
