“I can’t think of any Gordon Lightfoot song I don’t like. Every time I hear a song of his, it’s like I wish it would last forever.” - Bob Dylan
The West End Cultural Centre is celebrating the life of legendary Canadian singer/songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. A all-star local band, led by veteran bandleader Lloyd Peterson, will curate a show spanning the breadth of Lightfoot’s monumental catalogue.
Gordon Lightfoot’s music career had a meteoric rise in the 1960s with the release of his first self-titled album. Despite the rise of rock music and ebb of folk music, Lightfoot continued to release hits throughout the 1960s and 70s with such legendary songs as ‘Early Morning Rain’, ‘Sundown’, ‘If You Could Read My Mind’, and ‘The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald’. Through the 1970s and 80s, he toured the world while still maintaining his annual concert at Toronto’s Massey hall. Throughout his career, Lightfoot released 20 albums, received 16 Juno Awards, and was nominated for 5 Grammy Awards. he was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Canadian Walk of Fame. he has also received the Order of Canada and the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award.
To present this legendary catalogue of music, band leader Lloyd Peterson has put togheter an all-star local lineup of musicians including renowned local singers Andrina Turenne, Cara Luft, Sam Baardman, and Mark Reeves. They’ll be backed by Adam Warner on drum, Gilles Fournier on bass, and Peterson himself on guitar and keyboard. “If you go deep into the catalogue, there are some incredible gems that often don’t make it to radio,'“ said Peterson. “We’re going to celebrate some of those alongside the better known hits”.
