100 Decibels - A Deaf Mime Troupe, and Guests
A Deaf artists’ variety show. Mime, circus, dance, music!
For Deaf and hearing folks to enjoy together.
100 Decibels has set up a showcase that features both Deaf and non-deaf performers, with a special focus on 100 Decibels, a mime troupe of three talented Deaf performers. This event will not only highlight the incredible skill and creativity of Deaf artists but also promote inclusivity and raise awareness of the diverse ways in which storytelling, performance, and expression can transcend language barriers. By bringing together Deaf and non-deaf performers, we provide a platform that encourages cross-cultural understanding, breaks down stigmas, and fosters a more unified artistic community. Through this collaboration, we can expand perceptions of what performance art can be, creating a space where all silent and spoken voices are heard and valued.
100 Decibels is a high-energy physical comedy troupe from Winnipeg that is comprised of a diverse group of Deaf artists. Hailing originally from The Philippines, Manitoba and Poland, these performers have been professionally trained in mime, physical comedy and storytelling by the award-winning Hot Thespian Action's Shannon Guile. Their aim is not only to entertain audiences with their incredibly crisp and clean physical illusions but to reach-out with the beauty of Deaf Culture and build bridges between the hearing and Deaf worlds. 100 Decibels brings audiences to their feet - making them laugh, cry and say - "I never thought of it that way!"
This variety show also features artists Vernon Jebb (Pow Wow Dance), Natalie Sluis (Contemporary Dance), Hinode Taiko (drumming group), and CODA (child of Deaf adult) music duo Cemetery Subtitles.
This event will have both American Sign Language and English interpretation throughout.
